The New Orleans Pelicans are a professional basketball team based in New Orleans, Louisiana, and compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Conference's Southwest Division. The team was founded in 2002 as the New Orleans Hornets, but changed their name to the Pelicans in 2013.
The Pelicans play their home games at the Smoothie King Center and are owned by Gayle Benson. Their team colors are navy, red, gold, and white. The Pelicans have made the playoffs seven times in their history, with their deepest run coming in 2018 when they advanced to the second round before losing to the eventual champions, the Golden State Warriors.
The Pelicans have had several notable players throughout their history, including Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, and Zion Williamson. Williamson was selected first overall in the 2019 NBA draft and has quickly become one of the most exciting young players in the league. The Pelicans are known for their fast-paced and high-scoring style of play and are a team to watch in the NBA.
