The San Jose Sharks are a professional ice hockey team based in San Jose, California, USA. They were founded in 1991 and joined the National Hockey League (NHL) as an expansion team in the 1991-92 season. The team plays their home games at the SAP Center at San Jose, which has a seating capacity of 17,562. The Sharks have consistently been a strong team in the NHL, making the playoffs in 20 of their 31 seasons as of 2021. Although they have yet to win a Stanley Cup championship, they have won six division titles and have had numerous individual award winners, including Hart Trophy winner Joe Thornton and Norris Trophy winner Brent Burns. The team's colors are teal, black, and white, and their mascot is a great white shark named S.J. Sharkie.
